06/10/2010: GLASS EYE PIX announces launch of genre audio program “TALES FROM BEYOND THE PALE” curated and hosted by Larry Fessenden and Glenn McQuaid

Conceived during a fog-drenched car ride with nothing out the windshield but an horizon-less void, Larry Fessenden and Glenn McQuaid bring you audio theater inspired by the vintage radio shows of Boris Karloff and Peter Lorre, Alfred Hitchcock and Orson Welles. TALES FROM BEYOND THE PALE will be brought to you by Fessenden’s production outfit Glass Eye Pix, which is responsible for dozens of celebrated independent films including I SELL THE DEAD, THE HOUSE OF THE DEVIL, THE LAST WINTER, WENDY AND LUCY, as well as the forthcoming STAKE LAND and THE INNKEEPERS. TALES FROM BEYOND THE PALE will delve into the twisted minds of new and established horror auteurs to present singular stories of the uncanny; stories that will chill and delight fans of the macabre. Contributors include:
Douglas Buck (Cutting Moments, Sisters)
James Felix McKenny (Automatons, Hypothermia)
Jeff Buhler (Midnight Meat Train, Insanitarium)
Glenn McQuaid (I Sell the Dead))
Ilya Chaiken (Margarita Happy Hour, Liberty Kid)
Jim Mickle (Mulberry Street, Stake Land)
Don Coscarelli (Phantasm, Bubba Ho-Tep)
JT Petty (Soft for Digging, The Burrowers)
Larry Fessenden (Wendigo, The Last Winter)
Graham Reznick (I Can See You, The Viewer)
Ted Geoghegan (Sweatshop)
Paul Solet (Grace)
Sarah Langan (The Keeper, The Missing)
Ashley Thorpe (The Hairy Hands, Scayrecrow)
Joe Maggio (Bitter Feast)
Ti West (The House of the Devil, The Innkeepers)

Hosted by Larry Fessenden, each thirty-minute episode will transport the listener through sharp scripting and finely honed performances from actors familiar and new to the Glass Eye Pix stable. Also distinguishing these audio plays will be a concentration on the landscape of sound and music that can be taken for granted in the visual medium of film. Says Fessenden: “Glenn and I wanted to celebrate the written word and the power of sound design in approaching this project. We also found if you cut out cameras and lights, you can tell stories a lot cheaper.” Says McQuaid: “As filmmakers embarking on this project, we are letting go of our visual tricks— the imagery is suggested, not seen, and so the listener gets to paint their own picture, it's interactive.”
The accompanying website will feature an original poster for each story by Gary Pullin, the celebrated designer
responsible for the look of Rue Morgue Magazine. Visitors to the site will enjoy an intro by the stop-motion animator Voltaire and will find information on all of the show’s collaborators. TALES FROM BEYOND THE PALE will be made available through the website and will be downloadable via I-tunes and Amazon individually or as a series to be enjoyed however and whenever the listener wants: Radio plays for the digital age. Scripts are rolling in; production begins in August, and the first episodes should be available by Halloween. For all the latest news, please visit www.talesfrombeyondthepale.com.

BEYOND THE PALE: Unacceptable; outside agreed standards of decency. This pale is
the noun meaning 'a stake or pointed piece of wood'. It is virtually obsolete now except in this phrase, but is still in use in the associated words paling (as in paling fence)and impale (as in Dracula movies). The paling fence is significant, as the term pale became to mean the area enclosed by such a fence and later just the figurative meaning of 'the area that is enclosed and safe'. So, to be 'beyond the pale' was to be outside the area accepted as 'home'. —www.phrases.org

"impressive...writer-director Nathan Wrann unleashes an unsettling psychological mystery, imbues his story with a unique look and pace and works wonders... a challenging and altogether harrowing experience for discerning horror fans."

- Steven Puchalski, SHOCK CINEMA

“BURNING INSIDE is a raw and grinding midnight movie, unsavory grim in parts then slowly contemplative.”

- Marcus Stiglegger, DEADLINE MAGAZINE

"There is an awareness of filmmaking as a storytelling medium at work here that you will not find in a multiplex... A wholly original and daring piece of cinema. It's rare that acting, cinematography and editing work in such perfect harmony to create something this unique... Highly recommended to lovers of smart films."

05/04/2010- NEW WALKING DEAD POSTER OF GEORGE A. ROMERO'S SURVIVAL OF THE DEAD REVEALED, AVAILABLE ON XBOX LIVE AND VIDEO ON DEMAND!!

POSTER ART BY CHARLIE ADLARD

Immediately following the events of Diary of the Dead, SURVIVAL OF THE DEAD is the 6th film from George A. Romero to look at a world where humans are in the minority and the zombies rule.

Off the coast of Delaware sits the cozy Plum Island where two families are locked in a struggle for power, as it has been for generations.  The O'Flynn's, headed by patriarch Patrick O'Flynn (Kenneth Welsh) approach the zombie plague with a shoot-to-kill attitude.  The Muldoons, headed by Shamus Muldoon (Richard Fitzpatrick), feel that the zombies should be quarantined and kept 'alive,' in hopes that a solution will someday be found.

The O'Flynn's, who are clearly outnumbered, are forced to exile Patrick by boat to the mainland, where he meets up with a band of soldiers, headed by Guardsman Sarge (Alan Van Sprang). They join forces and return to the island, to find that the zombie plague has fully gripped the divided community.

As the battle between humans and zombies escalates, the master filmmaker continues to reinvent the modern horror genre with wicked humor and pointed social commentary.

SURVIVAL OF THE DEAD premieres on VOD, Amazon, Xbox Live and Playstation April 30 and in theaters on May 28th.

05/03/2010- HAPPINESS RUNS OPENS MAY 7TH!
Part Therapy. Part Cautionary Tale
...
HAPPINESS RUNS
Opening May 7, 2010 from Strand Releasing
NYC - The Quad Cinema – 34 West 13th Street

Based on Writer/Director Adam Sherman’s True Story

Starring: Rutger Hauer and Andie MacDowell.
Co-starring Jessie Plemons
(TV’s “Friday Night Lights”), Mark L. Young, Hanna Hall, Laura Peters and Shiloh Fernandez.

A young man named Victor realizes the shortcomings of the utopian ideals on the hippie commune where he was raised.  Victor’s mother is funding the commune where the guru Insley hypnotizes and seduces women with a technique he calls “running.”  Insley manipulates the minds of these women so that they give him their bodies and all their worldly possessions.

Victor’s childhood love, Becky, returns to take care of her deathly ill father. Victor, haunted by visions of Becky’s death, is desperate to save her and himself by escaping from the polygamous cult.  Preoccupied with Insley’s free love philosophy, the adults of the community overlook the painful reality that the self destructive behavior of their children is most certainly due to early exposure to sex and drugs.

To afford an escape, Victor tries to sell weed but is cut out by rivals competing for Becky’s affection.  Finally, Victor is torn between getting money from his mother who is entirely under Insley’s influence, dealing with the violent drama of his drug-addled friends, and staying to save Becky as she spins out of control.
